The first production of an opera by a man of Color to be nationally televised ( with libretto by Verna Arvey ). It tells the tale of a man in the Mississippi Bayou who falls in love with a spirit.

Opera

Recording of the 1962 world premiere at the University of Miami of this one-act opera by Still and Verna Arvey. The opera tells about the owners of a gasoline station who are victimized by a grasping relative.

Troubled Island

A reproduction of the 1949 New York performance of this Still opera in collaboration with Langston Hughes and Verna Arvey. Available on CD, this recording is a 50th anniversary tribute to the first opera by an Afro-American to be staged by a major American company. One of the first productions, with all of its technical flaws, is presented here.
